MOUNT PLEASANT — A Town Council committee awarded several contracts worth millions of dollars Monday for improvements to recreation fields, drainage improvements and the extension of a sidewalk.
All of the projects were awarded on unanimous votes by Councilmen Elton Carrier, Jim Owens and Gary Santos.
The largest of the projects awarded Monday was nearly $1.8 million of improvements to the Carolina Park sports complex. The project, which is expected to take about a year, includes a new building with bathrooms, storage facilities and a press box.
“I can tell you it’s needed,” Santos said, who is seeking re-election. “It’s desperately needed, especially the bathrooms.”
The $1.78 million contract went to low bidder TQ Constructors Inc. Another sports facility improvement contract, to install drainage systems for six soccer and softball fields, was awarded to Carolina Green Corp., for $432,415.
Drainage improvement work on several streets in the Belle Hall Plantation subdivision was awarded to Southeast Pipe Survey Inc. at a cost of $384,430.
And not far from Belle Hall, the town will extend a sidewalk along Wando Park Boulevard. That contract, for $164,710, went to Wildwood Contractors, Inc.
