Grab your mallet and crab cracker for the ultimate Lowcountry pickin’ at the 25th Annual Awendaw Blue Crab Festival, returning to the gorgeous Town of Awendaw on August 27 from 11 am to 5 pm.
Crabs are served by the bucket with your choice of flavor – traditional, garlic, or cajun! If crabs aren’t your thing, no problem. There is an abundance of local food trucks to satisfy all the cravings.
History of the Festival: In 1994, a small group of Awendaw residents gathered at Town Hall to eat a bushel of blue crab under a grand oak tree. Poof, the idea for the Blue Crab Festival was born. Moving locations and growing with time, the event has found its permanent home at the Awendaw Municipal Park, a 300-acre plot surrounded by mother nature with a 50-acre blue water lake. While the Park amenities continue to improve, there is no better place to honor the Lowcountry blue crab than this little spot of heaven.
The Town of Awendaw, established in 1992 and home to 1,588 residents, sits nestled along the eastern edge of the Francis Marion National Forest and the western edge of the Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge and just a few miles from Mt Pleasant. This unique setting offers abundant outdoor experiences for its residents and visitors including the East Coast Greenway’s Wappetaw Trail and the Awendaw Passage, the coastal terminus of the statewide Palmetto Trail.
