Darrell Creek is located just past the Wando High School and is approximately three miles off of Highway 17 North. The subdivision has lots of natural areas and live oaks. Properties reside on larger parcels of land (which is hard to find in Mount Pleasant!). The homes that have been built are all custom, elevated (crawl or raised foundations) properties with pond, creek, marsh and/or wetland views. Several of the creek properties have been approved for private or shared docks. There is no build time requirement for buyers who want to purchase a vacant lot. Amenities for the subdivision include a pool, cabana, oyster pit/BBQ area as well as a community dock. Source: Bob Lang with the Post and Courier as well as current info from experience.
From COMMONWEALTH, you go directly into DARRELL CREEK which is on the Wando River and Darrell Creek. These homes….there are about 290 houses and home sites. The home prices are around $500k to $1.6 million. I have friends who live back here and a lot of people like DARRELL CREEK for the country feel…sort of like the other neighborhoods we’ve ridden through this morning (ALSTON POINT and COMMONWEALTH). But to me, just to get back here off of Hwy 17 is a little bit of work and I think if you don’t mind that aspect of it, then DARRELL CREEK is definitely something you should check out, especially if you like some space between you and your neighbor or you want a lot with some type of water orientation. A lot of these home sites are on lakes and creeks, and some directly give access to the Wando River. Homes were built by various custom builders and some were built by ‘spec’ builders. One of my favorite builders who has built here, is Wes Whittle with Eastech Builders. We’ve done interviews with Wes before and he’s a great builder. It used to be, if you wanted property back here, DARRELL CREEK was the cheapest place to get land and now, lot prices are in the $200k and up range, so it’s not the value it was four to five years ago. I sold lots back here for about $90k and its doubled in value. That kind of shows you what land values have done in Mt. Pleasant….that’s one thing that’s gone back up; land acquisitions. I tell everybody that if you’re considering building, you need to talk to a good builder and look at land prices as it may be a bit more than you think it might be. Again, we’re in DARRELL CREEK, a beautiful setting where you have one side of sidewalks and lots of trees. As I’ve said, I have friends who live back here and they love it. Don’t let anything I’ve said about DARRELL CREEK dissuade you. Come out and take a look or give me a call and I’ll be happy to give you a tour.
