A Swim Complex in the Works for Patriots Point
By admin | June 4, 2008
According to a Post and Courier article a swimming complex is in the works for Patriots Point. It will be a big help to the economy, as many who support the “multi-jurisdictional natatoruim.” Recommendations from members of Mt. Pleasant town council will be considered on June 10th according the article by reporter Prentiss Findlay.
Hopefully the town of Mount Pleasant, the City of Charleston and Charleston County can all work together to make this project a reality. Then once its completed, the Charleston County Parks and Recreation Commission will be in charge of maintaining the facility. The plan is to lease land for it, but certain members of Charleston City Council are requesting a $10,000 feasibility study before they begin considering giving a green light to the project. The hope is that the complex would help boost ticket sales at the Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum.
The Natatorium will host swim meets, and offer other activities such as water therapy, recreation and emergency personnel training. According to Findlay, the “natatorium would include a 50-meter pool, smaller pools and seating for 2,000 people.” The exact location would be close to the Yorktown.
